Gemstone Services, Inc (GSI) started in the spring of 2007 with a single transaction and as a function of necessity. A busy vice-president of a successful commercial truck dealership had a dilemma. His first wedding anniversary was approaching, and though he knew what he wanted to give his wife, he had neither the time nor desire to venture to one of the plethora of jewelry stores in the Twin Cities. A trusted friend with knowledge in the industry offered to purchase a few items at a conventional jeweler for him to review and to return those items he didn’t choose to keep. He even offered to present the items at his office. In the end, the vice president’s wife received a lovely tennis bracelet in a unique presentation at one of Minneapolis’ finest restaurants, and a business was born.
